like living organisms reflect on the shiny rocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The glowing light comes from clothes worn by gender fluid models and cyborgs. They take part in a unique catwalk to present a collection of bioluminescent clothes. Medusa Fashion has made a name for itself using biodegradable materials for years but this year they extended their experimentation with glowing microorganisms in their clothes. The fabrics have veins in which these organisms live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medusa clothes are designed in collaboration with A.I. algorithms. Organic patterns from microorganisms, mycelia and hives are injected to the A.I. which weaves them into designs that not only resemble natural forms but also allow the organisms to flow uninterrupted. The clothes need to be exposed to sunlight for a fraction of time and they are maintained by a liquid with nutrients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those sitting on the rock the experience is augmented by a Mixed Reality Experience. Through the use of AR contact lenses or MR glasses the audience is able to witness an impressive show of huge Flying Medusas\u2019 in the night sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole city is covered in lush vegetation. It took more than 20 years for citizens, companies and governments to work together in order to integrate autonomous vertical gardens and sustainable green architecture to the city matrix. The once harsh sea of cement that was Athens in the 20th century has given its place to what feels like a warm blanket of plants interweaved with the lights of the city<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the show however the only source of light comes from the glowing clothes. As the audience is immersed in the dark the whole experience becomes a rare bonding ritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our coexistence with different organisms, including microorganisms and plants, could bring us toward a brand new philosophy of\u00a0 raw materials and the living world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe one day our new clothes could grow on our skin, cooling us or keep us warm and light our way with their soft bioluminescent light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>METHODOLOGY FOR CREATING THE POSTER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our team, which consists of artists and researchers, worked collaboratively in designing and producing this image. We used Artificial Intelligence image generating software in order to create the imaginary futuristic elements for the composition. Firstly we shot photos of the Acropolis at dawn to create the main background for the poster. Then we started prompting in the AI software based on ideas and research emanating from a commonly designed storyworld. There are three main themes that are included in this image. Biomaterials, augmented reality, vertical gardens architecture and A.I. design. Through numerous prompts and iterations with the AI software we explored these ideas visually and theoretically before selecting the elements that made it into the final poster. We strongly believe that collaboration between humans and A.I. will be a crucial part of our future lives and thus we refrained from over-editing the A.I. images to expose this aspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RESEARCH INTO BIOMATERIAL FASHION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), the fashion industry is responsible for 10% percent of global CO2 emissions. Wanderers explores the possibility of voyaging to the worlds beyond by visiting the worlds within. 3D printed wearable capillaries designed for interplanetary pilgrims are infused with synthetically engineered microorganisms to make the hostile habitable and the deadly alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each design is a codex of the animate and inanimate with an origin and a destination: the origin being engineered organisms, which multiply to create the wearable within a 3D printed skins; and the destination being a unique planet in the solar system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wearables are designed to interact with a specific environment characteristic of their destination and generate sufficient quantities of biomass, water, air and light necessary for sustaining life: some photosynthesize converting daylight into energy, others bio-mineralize to strengthen and augment human bone, and some fluoresce to light the way in pitch darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same spirit Tangible Media Group of MIT uses layers of bacteria that swell in the presence of humidity to create culling vents in clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, for what reason is clothing made of bacterial colonies a good idea?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting from the basics, microorganisms are living beings that means that they live, consume and produce energy and eventually die. It means that a fully functional wearable made enhanced with microbiome is not yet possible. Yang\u2019s clothing was made from algae extract, which formed an intricate, leathery lace when cast in custom-made 3D moulds before being treated with silk cocoon protein. To bring this impossible-looking creation to life, Yang began by experimenting with virtual designs: using software to run through various silhouettes and simulations before she got to the stage of making it.
